And did you know?
You’ll be alone in the undertow?
When you’re far from home?
And when you’re grown
You’ll look around
And your friends are gone
(You feel you) can’t go on
But don’t despair my friend
You’ll get there in the end, I know
Yeah it’s hard I know
When you’re the underdog
When you’re the underdog
When you’re the underdog
When you’re the underdog
When you’re the underdog
And did you know
That you can grow instead of taking it on
Just reject the thought
So it wasn’t your show
You didn’t get time to clear your mind
You'll get another go
And you can get back up
When you’re the underdog
When you’re the underdog
When you’re the underdog
When you’re the underdog
And they say: Time won’t change you, nothing will change you, time won’t change a thing
Cause you take time and you can choose why and you know how to win
And they say: time will change you nothing will change you time won’t change a thing
Cause you take time and you can choose why and you know how to win when you’re the underdog
about
Today PIPSY shares their thoughtful third single Underdog, which is taken from their upcoming debut album All You Ever Wanted (out November 2).
"While I was writing this record I was playing a lot of keyboards and synths, so the song was written entirely on a Wurlitzer. I wanted it to be a reflective song that started out dreamy, and then kicked in half way through, reminiscent of modern psychedelic artists that I dig like Tame Impala and Unknown Mortal Orchestra."
"The song reflects on feeling like you’re an underdog. It’s a bit of a philosophical reflection on how to process those feelings, and to remind yourself to keep going, even when you don’t feel like you’re making progress - because you are! The song is a celebration of people that put up with a lot of s*#t that life throws their way, and yet still manage to carry on, being kind, and doing great things."
The Underdog music video is inspired by, and serves as an homage to, MS-DOS, Nintendo, and SEGA games from the early 1990s. Favourites that inspired the video are (in no particular order): Traffic Department 2192, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Duke Nukem II, Commander Keen, Halloween Harry (also known as Alien Carnage), Gobliiins, Sonic II, Boppin, Monster Bash, Battle Toads, Streets of Rage II, Kirby's Dream Land, Mario II, Jazz Jackrabbit, and many more.
Go and play some if you haven't, they're super fun! Enjoy! ^__^
